Mixed media collages made from children's textbooks from the 1950's and 60's.

I initially started this project when I was pregnant with my son. My intent was to make the work for him. However, the pieces which resulted from this process were much more 'adult' and ironic than I expected. Many of them cheerfully espouse racist and sexist rhetoric. Their original use - to teach children - explains the conflicting messages on race and gender that still abound today.
